of unknown antecedents, was at Castellhywel school and went to Swansea Academy in 1784. He was ordained in 1788 as colleague to David Griffiths at Llechryd, Cardiganshire, and after D. Griffiths's death (1794) was sole pastor; he also kept school. Like his colleague, he was far from being an orthodox Calvinist; indeed, throughout his career at Llechryd he also assisted David Davis at Pen-rhiw; his obituary notice in the Monthly Repository says he 'might be ranked as a low Arian.' He died 31 January 1818, aged 56, at Neuadd Wilym, half-way between Llechryd and Cardigan. T. J. Griffiths (Tau Gimel), was his son.
